Literature

I never used to be good at reading, although that's had to change as I've been at University (especially for my PhD!). In recent years, I've taken to reading novels, and thoroughly enjoying some of them.

Christian books

I suppose most people aren't aware of the plethora of Christian-themed books out there. The first I got really enthustically drawn into was the "Left Behind" series, which I practically devoured! (Some books I read in less than 48 hours, which is amazing for me!). Following on from there, Jerry B. Jenkins' book "Riven" is a really powerful story, and well worth reading.

There are lots of Christian books written like novels, but which are based on real-life, such as the autobiographical "Taming the Tiger" by Tony Anthony.

Crime

Having played an excellent Sherlock Holmes game once, I decided to buy some of the original stories. I ended buying all of the original stories, and reading them over the course of a few months, and was absolutely rivetted. Thoroughly enjoyable and very exciting!

Having run out of Holmes stories, I turned to another great detective... namely, Poirot. I am less enthusiastic about these stories, perhaps because they lack the same momentum and precision as Doyle's work... but they are very interesting nonetheless.

Fanstasy

Of course, the fantasy master is Tolkein. "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" have a proud place on my bookshelf, because they are such masterpieces. The LOTR novels were indeed quite hard to get through sometimes, but well worth the effort.

After many years of persuasion, I finally decided to try reading the Discworld novels too, and I think they are amazing! Very witty, very imaginative, and lots of fun.
