Games

I have always enjoyed games -- they are a great was to pass the time, whether alone or with others, and whether they are computer games, or traditional board games. An intellectual challenge is often fun too. :)

Computer / Video Games

There is no single genre or style that I am devoted to. Uniqueness and entertainment are my favourite attributes of any title.

Adventure
I think my favourite type of computer game is adventure. The old Monkey Island games were really entertaining, as was Day of the Tentacle. More recently, I've enjoyed the new Sam & Max series as well. The combination of exciting stories, challenging puzzles, and sometimes hilarious characters is very appealing! However, serious adventures are welcome too, such as The Dig.

Skateboarding
I can't deny it, I really enjoyed a lot of the Tony Hawk's skating games. Pro Skater 3 and 4 were my favourite, although I certainly enjoyed Underground 1 and 2, and American Wasteland.

Platformers
This genre is a classic for me, especially Nintendo's Mario games -- whether it's Super Mario World, way back on the SNES, through to Super Mario 64, and even Super Mario Sunshine... they're all great fun! I'll often give other platformers a try too, although I am less keen on the really fast-paced platformers, such as the Sonic games, and was never much of a Rayman fan.

Brainy Games
The Dr. Kawashima games on the Nintendo DS were definite favourites of mine for a while, although a lot of casual games fall into a similar category, even if not overtly. Anything which is designed to stretch and challenge you is good.

I could go into lots more detail about game types, including fighting, FPS, and RTS... you can probably tell this is a passion of mine!

Board Games

Nothing beats an evening with family or friends, enjoying a good board game. Scrabble is an enduring classic in my family, and other wordy games such as Boggle have stood the test of time too. I like games to have a good balance of chance and strategy, so Risk (and some of its variants) is good, as are "Ticket To Ride" and strategic games like Carcassone.
